De titel A Small Step for Mankind is een vereenvoudiging van de welbekende uitspraak van Neil Amstrong toen hij op tv zijn eerste stap op de maan zette. In deze foto heb ik de kaplaars gebruikt van mijn zoon toen hij ongeveer 5 jaar oud was. Het is dezelfde laars die ik heb gebruikt in het werk Vogel, Laars uit 2021. In de belichting van dit werk heb ik getracht het maanlicht een beetje na te bootsen. Het is maar een kleine afstand tussen de vogel en de kaplaars maar ergens ook weer een hele grote.
[ A Small Step to Mankind– The title A Small Step for Mankind is a simplification of Neil Amstrong’s well-known quote when he took his first step on the moon on TV. In this picture, I used my son’s hooded boot when he was about 5 years old. It is the same boot I used in the 2021 work Bird, Boot. In the lighting of this work, I tried to mimic the moonlight a bit. It is only a small distance between the bird and the cap boot but somewhere again a very big one.]
