Olifant

Het duurde even voordat de juiste titel in beeld kwam. Het meest in het oogspringende is natuurlijk de stoere, totaal in evenwicht zittende vogel aan de linkerkant op de houten bal. De vogel is in totale rust en straalt volledige stabiliteit uit. Het is de olifant die hier een beetje de stuntelaar is. Door zijn geprefabriceerde poten blijft hij maar moeilijk op de steen staan. Hoe mooi is het dat de olifant uit balans lijkt te raken maar de vogel juist zo zeker van zijn zaak lijkt te zijn. Zen zit hier in de vogel en niet in de olifant. Oftewel: stabiliteit komt niet altijd uit gewicht, maar uit weten waar je voeten staan.
[ Balancing Elephant – It took a while before the right title came to mind. The most striking feature is, of course, the sturdy, perfectly balanced bird on the left side of the wooden ball. The bird is completely at rest and radiates total stability. It is the elephant that is a bit of a stuntman here. Due to its prefabricated legs, it had difficulty staying on the stone. How beautiful it is that the elephant seems to be losing its balance, while the bird seems so sure of itself. Zen is in the bird here, not in the elephant. In other words: stability does not always come from weight, but from knowing where your feet are. ]
